AI Canvas Quiz Solvers: How They Work and Which Kind to Use (2026)
A Canvas quiz solver is any tool that turns a Canvas question into an answer. They come in four kinds, and they differ hugely in speed, in what they leave in the quiz log, and in what they can and cannot do. Here is how each one works under the hood, what none of them can do, and how to pick one.
Short answer. An AI Canvas quiz solver reads the question you are looking at, sends it to an AI model, and gives you back an answer. The good ones read the question straight from the Canvas page and put the answer on that same page, so you never leave the quiz. The rest make you copy the question somewhere else and bring the answer back, which is slower and shows up in the Canvas quiz log. No solver can read Canvas's answer key, because Canvas never sends it to your browser.
The four kinds of Canvas quiz solver
| Kind | How you use it | Leaves the quiz page? | Time per question |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inline extension | Press a shortcut, double-click the question | No | A few seconds |
| Sidebar extension | Copy into a panel beside the page, copy the answer back | Often | 15 to 25 seconds |
| Screenshot / OCR tool | Snip the question, read the answer | Sometimes | 15 to 30 seconds |
| AI chatbot or answer website | Paste in another tab, come back | Yes, every question | 20 to 45 seconds |
We went through the specific tools in each category in Canvas Quiz Answers in 2026. This guide is about how they work, so you can judge any of them yourself.
How an inline Canvas quiz solver works
This is the kind worth understanding, because it is the only one that never leaves the page.
1. It reads the question from the page. A Canvas quiz is a web page. The question text and every option are in it, the same way they are on your screen. In Classic Quizzes they sit directly in the page. In New Quizzes they are inside an embedded frame, which a solver has to look inside specifically. Tools that cannot read that frame do not work on New Quizzes at all.
2. It works out the question type. Multiple choice, select all that apply, dropdowns, fill-in-the-blank and matching all look different on the page and need different answers. A solver has to recognise each one.
3. It sends the question and options to an AI model. The answer comes back as text.
4. It checks the answer against the options. Better solvers confirm the answer is actually one of the choices before using it. Without that step, an AI can confidently return something that is not on the list.
5. It applies the answer on the page. The solver selects the matching radio button, ticks the right boxes, picks the dropdown option, or types into the blank, matching by option text so Canvas's shuffled answer order does not matter. Because all of this happens inside the quiz page, focus never leaves it.
That last point is why inline solvers do not create "stopped viewing" events in the quiz log. Nothing was opened, switched to or clicked outside the page. See Canvas Stopped Viewing Flag Explained.
ExamClutch reads questions directly from your LMS page and applies answers with a double-click. No tab switching, no copy-paste, no detection signals.
What no Canvas quiz solver can do
Read the answer key. During a quiz, Canvas keeps the correct answers on its servers and only sends your browser the questions. There is nothing on the page to read. Instructure has looked into Canvas extensions publicly, and what they found is the same: these tools work from the visible question text, not from protected answers. Any tool that claims otherwise is not telling the truth. More in Does Canvas Hack Really Work?
Work in LockDown Browser. Respondus LockDown Browser does not load Chrome extensions. No extension-based solver runs there, whatever the marketing says.
Be right every time. Every solver is ultimately an AI model, and AI models make mistakes, especially on select-all-that-apply and NOT questions. See Best AI for Multiple Choice Questions.
Hide what a webcam sees. On quizzes proctored with Honorlock, Proctorio or ProctorU, your screen and face may be recorded. A solver does not change that.
How to pick a Canvas quiz solver
Check these before you depend on one during a real quiz:
- New Quizzes support. Many schools have moved to New Quizzes. Make sure the tool reads inside the New Quizzes frame.
- Question types. Multiple choice is the minimum. Multi-select, dropdown and fill-in-the-blank are where weaker tools stop working.
- Applies the answer, or just shows it. Being told "B" still means finding and clicking it, under a timer.
- Never submits for you. You should always be the one who decides to submit.
- Other LMSes. If any of your courses use Blackboard, Brightspace, Moodle or McGraw Hill, one tool for all of them is easier.
- A demo before you pay. You want to see it work on a real quiz page first.
- Red flags. Asking for your Canvas password, claiming to read answer keys, or "unlimited free AI" with no explanation of who pays for it. More in Free AI Quiz Solvers.
ExamClutch: the inline Canvas quiz solver we build
ExamClutch is a Canvas quiz solver that works the inline way described above. Press Cmd+Shift+X or Ctrl+Shift+X on a quiz, and it reads each question and its options from the page, including inside New Quizzes. Every answer is checked against the options on the page, and if it does not match one, ExamClutch leaves that question blank rather than guess. Double-click a question and the answer is applied.
It handles multiple choice, select-all-that-apply, dropdowns and fill-in-the-blank, and works on Blackboard, Brightspace, Moodle, Schoology, McGraw Hill, Google Forms and more as well as Canvas. It fills answers in and never submits for you.
- Install the Chrome extension
- Try the demo quiz first, ten questions answered live, no pairing code needed
- See pricing, weekly plan if you only need it for one exam week
FAQ
Do Canvas quiz solvers work on New Quizzes? Only the ones built to read inside the New Quizzes frame. Check before you rely on one.
Can a Canvas quiz solver see the correct answers? No. Canvas does not send correct answers to your browser during a quiz, so there is nothing for any tool to read. Solvers answer the question with AI.
Does a Canvas quiz solver show up in the quiz log? Inline solvers that work inside the page do not cause stopped viewing events. Tools that make you switch tabs or windows do, every time.
Do Canvas quiz solvers work with LockDown Browser? No. LockDown Browser does not run Chrome extensions.
Is there a free Canvas quiz solver? Some extensions have limited free tiers, and AI chatbots are free to use in another tab. See Free AI Quiz Solvers: What You Actually Get.
