Free AI Quiz Solvers (2026): What You Actually Get for Free
There are real free ways to get AI help on a quiz: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot and Google Lens all have free tiers. Each one costs you something else instead, usually time, tab switches or a usage cap. Here is the honest accounting, plus the free-extension red flags worth knowing.
Short answer. Yes, you can get AI quiz help for free. The free tiers of ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Microsoft Copilot all answer quiz questions well, and Google Lens solves questions from a photo. What none of them do for free is answer on the quiz page itself. You copy, switch, paste, wait and come back, every question. Free is real. It is just paid for in time and in tab switches.
The free options that actually work
ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Copilot (free tiers)
All four have free tiers that are genuinely good at quiz questions. The limits are on usage, not quality: heavy use can drop you to a smaller model or pause you until the limit resets, which tends to happen at the worst moment of a long quiz. Exact limits change often, so check the current ones before you depend on them.
Cost: Each question means leaving the quiz page and coming back. On Canvas, that is a stopped viewing pair in the quiz log, every time. See Can Canvas Detect ChatGPT?
Google Lens and Circle to Search
Point your phone at the screen, or screenshot the question on Android, and Google returns search results and often an AI answer. Free and surprisingly good for straightforward factual questions.
Cost: Slow, and phone-based. Nothing is logged by Canvas, but on a proctored quiz the webcam sees you pick up your phone.
Free tiers of quiz extensions
Many quiz solver extensions advertise "free". Usually that means a small number of free questions per day or per account, which runs out partway through a real quiz.
Cost: The cap. Read it before the quiz, not during it.
What "free" costs on a real quiz
For a 30-question timed quiz:
| Free option | Time per question | Total time spent getting answers | Leaves the quiz page? |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT / Gemini / Claude in another tab | 20 to 45 seconds | 10 to 22 minutes | Yes, 30 times |
| Phone with Google Lens | 20 to 40 seconds | 10 to 20 minutes | No, but needs your phone |
| Free extension tier | A few seconds | Fast until the cap runs out | Depends on the tool |
| Paid inline extension | A few seconds | 1 to 2 minutes | No |
On a quiz with a 30-minute timer, the difference between 2 minutes and 20 minutes of overhead is the difference between finishing and not.
ExamClutch reads questions directly from your LMS page and applies answers with a double-click. No tab switching, no copy-paste, no detection signals.
Red flags in "free" quiz extensions
A quiz solver extension needs permission to read the pages you use it on. That is normal, and it is also exactly why a dodgy one is risky. Be careful with any extension that:
- Asks for your Canvas or school password. A legitimate extension works with the page you are already logged into. It never needs your credentials.
- Promises it can read the answer key. It cannot. Canvas does not send correct answers to your browser during a quiz, so no extension can see them. We explained why in How to See Correct Answers on a Canvas Quiz.
- Offers unlimited AI for free with no explanation. Running AI models costs money for every question. If you are not paying, check how they are paying for it, which is often your data.
- Has no website, privacy policy or support contact. If something goes wrong mid-exam, you want someone to contact.
Plenty of "Canvas hack" downloads fall into these categories. See Does Canvas Hack Really Work?
The best free setup, if you're not paying
If you want to stay free, this is the least painful combination:
- Use the full question and every option when you paste into a chatbot, and ask for the option text rather than the letter. Canvas shuffles answer order, so letters are meaningless. More in Best AI for Multiple Choice Questions.
- Batch where you are allowed to. If the quiz shows all questions on one page, copying several at once means fewer trips away from the page than one per question.
- Keep a second AI ready for when the first one hits its limit.
- Leave time. Budget roughly 30 seconds per question for the round trip.
Where ExamClutch fits, honestly
ExamClutch is not free. There is no free tier, because answering every question on every quiz costs real money to run. What is free is the demo: a ten-question quiz you can watch it solve live, before you pay anything.
What you pay for is the part free tools cannot do. ExamClutch reads the question and its options straight from the quiz page, gets the answer, and applies it there with a double-click. No tabs, no pasting, no round trips, and nothing in the quiz log. Plans run weekly, monthly or annually, so if you only need it for one exam week you can buy one week.
It works on Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace, Moodle, Schoology, McGraw Hill, Google Forms and more, and handles multiple choice, multi-select, dropdown and fill-in-the-blank. It fills answers in and never submits for you.

FAQ
Is there a completely free AI quiz solver? The free tiers of ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Copilot will answer quiz questions at no cost. They are not quiz solvers in the sense of working on the quiz page, so you copy questions to them and copy answers back.
Is ChatGPT free good enough for quizzes? For most questions, yes, as long as you give it the full question and every option. Usage limits are the bigger problem on long quizzes.
Are free quiz solver extensions safe? Some are. Check that it has a real website and privacy policy, never asks for your school password, and does not claim to read answer keys.
Does ExamClutch have a free trial? There is no free trial, but there is a free demo quiz on the dashboard where you can watch it answer ten questions before deciding.
