Best AI Chrome Extensions for Online Quizzes (2026)

A comparison of the AI Chrome extensions students are actually using for Canvas, Brightspace, Blackboard, Moodle, and other online quizzes in 2026 — what each one is good at, what it isn't, and when to use which.

AI Chrome extensions for online quizzes have gone from "sketchy sidebar that just pastes ChatGPT" to a real category. Here's an honest breakdown of what's out there in 2026 and when each tool actually makes sense.

What "AI quiz helper" means in 2026

The category has split into three rough archetypes:

  1. Sidebar tools — a chat panel that lives on the right side of the page. You copy questions in, get answers out.
  2. Inline DOM tools — read questions directly from the LMS page, suggest answers inline, often apply them with a click.
  3. Screenshot tools — you highlight or screenshot a question, and the tool OCRs it.

Inline DOM tools are by far the fastest if they support your LMS. Screenshot tools are the most flexible but the slowest per question. Sidebar tools are a middle ground that mostly exists because they're easier to build.

What to look for

  • LMS coverage. If your school uses more than one LMS, single-LMS tools will frustrate you.
  • Question type coverage. Multiple choice is table stakes. Multi-select, dropdown, and fill-in-the-blank are where most tools drop off.
  • Apply-to-page behavior. Does double-clicking the question actually mark the answer, or do you still have to click the right option manually?
  • Privacy. Does it store your questions? Your answers? Your LMS account session? Read the privacy policy, not the marketing page.
  • Pricing. Most tools are either "free with hard limits" or "subscription with unlimited questions". Match to your quiz volume.

ExamClutch

ExamClutch is the extension we build, and it's designed around the inline-DOM workflow.

  • LMS coverage: Canvas, Brightspace, Blackboard, Moodle, D2L, McGraw Hill Connect, Schoology, Edulastic, DeltaMath, IXL, Microsoft Forms, Google Forms.
  • Question types: MCQ, multi-select, dropdown, fill-in-the-blank.
  • Apply-to-page: Yes — double-click any question to mark the answer.
  • Activation: Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+X.
  • Privacy: Runs locally in the browser, doesn't store answers, doesn't sell data.
  • Pricing: Weekly, monthly, and annual plans on /pricing.

Good fit if you're on any of the 12 supported LMS platforms and want the fastest per-question workflow.

Generic ChatGPT sidebar extensions

There are dozens of these. They're useful for everything-that's-not-a-quiz (drafting emails, summarizing articles), but for quizzes specifically they force you into the copy-paste workflow. Use one if you're on an LMS nobody else supports.

Screenshot / OCR tools

Good for PDFs, scanned handouts, and LMS pages where extensions can't read the DOM (some Blackboard Ultra views). Slow for regular quiz workflows.

The honest recommendation

If your LMS is on our support list, inline-DOM extensions (ExamClutch included) are always going to be faster than sidebar or screenshot tools — by a lot. If it isn't, a ChatGPT sidebar plus a Chrome snipping extension is a reasonable stack.
