How to See Correct Answers on a Canvas Quiz (and Why They're Hidden)
If you only see your score after a Canvas quiz, your instructor has hidden your responses, the correct answers, or the grade itself. Here is where to look, what each setting means, why 'inspect element' won't help, and how to actually get the answers you need to study.
Short answer. You can only see correct answers on a Canvas quiz if your instructor allowed it. If they did, you will find them by opening the quiz again, or going to Grades and clicking the quiz. If all you see is a score, or nothing at all, one of three settings is hiding it: your responses are hidden, the correct answers are hidden, or the grade has not been posted yet. There is no student-side trick around any of them, because Canvas does not send hidden answers to your browser.
Where to find your quiz results
Try these in order:
- Open the quiz itself. In Classic Quizzes, the quiz page shows your attempt history on the right. Click the attempt to see your responses and, if allowed, the correct answers.
- Go to Grades. Click the quiz name in your Grades list. This opens your submission, with any feedback the instructor left.
- Check the attempt. If the quiz allows several attempts, results can differ between attempts, and you may only see the kept or latest one.
In New Quizzes, results open from the same places, but the layout is different and what you can see is controlled by a separate set of options.
Why your answers are not showing
The grade has not been posted
Canvas lets instructors hold grades back until they choose to post them. Until then you may see that you submitted, but not your score or anything about the questions. This is common when there are essay questions to mark by hand, or when the instructor waits until every section has taken the quiz.
Your responses are hidden
In Classic Quizzes, instructors choose whether students can see their quiz responses at all. If that option is off, you will see your score and nothing else. If it is on with "only once after each attempt", you got one look right after submitting, and closing that page closed it for good.
The correct answers are hidden, or hidden until a date
Seeing your own responses and seeing the correct answers are separate settings. An instructor can show you which questions you got wrong without showing you what was right. They can also set dates: correct answers appear after the due date, or only after your last attempt, or disappear after a certain day.
New Quizzes result view restrictions
New Quizzes has its own "restrict student result view" options. Instructors can independently show or hide the questions, your responses, the points, and the correct answers, and set when results appear. Any combination is possible, which is why two classes can look so different.
ExamClutch reads questions directly from your LMS page and applies answers with a double-click. No tab switching, no copy-paste, no detection signals.
Why instructors hide answers
It is usually not about you. The common reasons:
- Other sections or late takers have not taken it yet. Students with extensions or accommodations take the same quiz days later.
- Question banks get reused. Many instructors build quizzes from a bank they use every semester. Showing the answers would publish the bank.
- Answers get shared. Correct answers that appear after submission end up in group chats and on Quizlet within hours.
Knowing the reason helps when you ask, which is the next section.
What does not work
Inspect element. Hidden correct answers are not on the page. Canvas decides on its server what you are allowed to see and only sends that to your browser. There is nothing in the page source to find.
Browser extensions that claim to reveal answers. For the same reason, no extension can show an answer Canvas never sent. Tools that claim to read a Canvas answer key are either misleading or scams. We looked at what "Canvas hacks" really do in Does Canvas Hack Really Work?
Retaking to see the answers. If you have attempts left, a retake shows you the questions again but not the correct answers, unless the settings allow it.
How to actually get the answers you need
- Ask, specifically. "Could I see which questions I got wrong on Quiz 4 so I can study for the midterm?" is a request most instructors say yes to, even when they keep answers hidden from the class. Offer to look at it in office hours if they do not want it shared electronically.
- Ask after the due date. If answers are hidden to protect late takers, they are often released, or the instructor is happy to share, once everyone has submitted.
- Use the TA. Teaching assistants usually have access to the results and can walk you through them.
- Work from what you can see. If you can see which questions were wrong but not the right answers, that is still a precise study list. Find each topic in the slides or textbook.
- Look for a practice version. Many courses have ungraded practice quizzes with answers visible. They are often built from the same bank.
When you would rather not lose the marks in the first place
Hidden answers hurt most when you find out what you got wrong after the grade is already locked. If your quiz is unproctored and AI help is allowed in your course, ExamClutch reads each question and its options from the Canvas page and applies the answer before you submit, without you leaving the quiz page. It works on Classic Quizzes and New Quizzes, handles multiple choice, multi-select, dropdown and fill-in-the-blank, and never submits for you.
It does not, and cannot, reveal hidden answer keys. Like every tool, it only sees the question you see.
- Install the Chrome extension
- Try the demo quiz first, no pairing code needed

FAQ
Why can I see my score but not my answers on Canvas? Your instructor has turned off student access to quiz responses, or allowed it only once right after submitting. Your score is visible because the grade has been posted.
Why can't I see my quiz grade at all? The grade has probably not been posted yet. Instructors often hold grades until essay questions are marked or every section has finished.
Can I see which questions I got wrong without seeing the correct answers? Yes, if your instructor allows responses but hides correct answers. Wrong answers are marked, the right ones are not shown.
Do correct answers show up after the due date? Only if the instructor set them to. Many do, so check again after the due date or after your final attempt.
Can Canvas quiz answers be found in the page source? No. Hidden answers are never sent to your browser, so there is nothing to find.
